Project Haystack Announced Executive Leadership Transition and Expanded Member Engagement

Richmond, VA –  March 15, 2022 – The Project Haystack Organization (https://www.project-haystack.org), a collaborative community addressing the challenge of utilizing semantic modeling and tagging to streamline the interchange of data among different systems, devices, equipment and software applications, today announced that the Board has voted to transition to three Co-Executive Directors to serve the organization. The new Co-Executive Directors of Project Haystack are Alex Rohweder, CEO of J2 Innovations; Richard McElhinney, Vice President of Technology at Conserve It; and Nick Gayeski, CEO of Clockworks Analytics. The transition is planned to be completed by May 1, 2022.

John Petze, Executive Director of Project Haystack since its formation in 2011, and CEO of SkyFoundry, a Founding Member of Project Haystack, will continue serving on the Board of Directors.

“For the past 11 years, John has served the organization and the Smart Buildings industry with dedication and distinction. His passion for making data easier to work with has fueled tremendous progress for creating a community-driven, open-source standard to consistently add meaning to the vast amount of device data produced by smart devices,” said Marc Petock, Executive Secretary of Project Haystack and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, of Founding Member company Lynxspring. “Starting from ‘it’s like finding the needle in the haystack’ to today, Project Haystack provides a comprehensive, open standard for semantic tagging of data that has been embraced worldwide. On behalf of the Executive Leadership team, we are grateful for his leadership and contributions to educating the industry on the importance of a standard for data semantics in the built environment.”

As a member of the Board of Directors, John Petze will play an important role in assisting the new Executive Leadership team as they take over and expand their leadership efforts. Associate Member Clockworks Analytics recently became a Founding Member expanding the corporate engagement on the Board of Directors.

The newly elected Executive Leadership team will build on the vision, approach and team culture established over the years and intends to maintain those paths. Ongoing advancement of the standard, further off-the-shelf adoption of Project Haystack in IoT systems and devices, continued dialogue with other standard bodies for interoperability and convergence, as well as global expansion, are key topics the Leadership team intends to continue focusing on.

Building systems is where the Project Haystack tagging methodology gained traction and adoption, but the Haystack methodology is not just about HVAC, temperature sensors, fans, and meters. The IoT, Building IoT and the Industrial IoT are bringing diverse smart devices into high-rise commercial buildings, industrial facilities, universities, homes, factories, and agriculture. The Project Haystack tagging methodology is now being deployed in thousands of buildings incorporating millions of square feet globally.

The Project Haystack Organization consists of Founding Member and Board Member companies Clockworks Analytics, Conserve It, J2 Innovations, Legrand, Lynxspring, Siemens and SkyFoundry, and Associate Member companies 75F, Accu-Temp Systems, Allander Analytics, Altura Associates, Automated Logic, BASSG, Brainbox AI, Bueno Systems, BuildingFit, Buildings IOT, CABA, e-Magic, Energy Management Association, Intellastar, Intelligent Buildings, IoT Warez, KMC Controls, KNX Association, Switch Automation, Tridium, WideSky and Yorkland Controls, as well as numerous Haystack supporters involved in the Project Haystack Forums and Working Groups.
